چکیده
I review the basic problems posed by the existence of the Fundamental Plane, and discuss its relations with the Virial Theorem (VT). Various possibilities are presented that can produce the observed uniform departure from homology (structural , dynamical) and/or from a constant stellar mass-to-light ratio. The role of orbital anisotropy and its relation with the FP thickness are also discussed. None of the explored solutions – albeit formally correct – are easily acceptable from a physical point of view, due to the ever-present problem of the required fine-tuning.

We present preliminary results of numerical simulations of dissipationless merging of stellar systems, aimed at exploring the consequences of merging between gas free, spheroidal systems. In particular, we study the dynamical and structural characteristics of hierarchical merging between equal mass stellar systems, and we compare the properties of the end-products with the most important struct...

A complex structure of nuclear disks of normal spiral galaxies is illustrated on the example of five galaxies, observed at 6m telescope. A problem of gravitational stability of nuclear disks is shortly discussed.

We suggest the radii and luminosities of the X-ray emitting halos of elliptical galaxies define a fundamental plane with the star velocity dispersions, as for the corresponding optical observables. Since the X-ray emitting material usually is at larger radius than the stars this can be interpreted as additional evidence for a relation between the space distributions of stellar and dark mass, in...
